Note/L10N/Bard_of_Cyrodiil/2.0/Dialogue/00Dionne?

FormID: 01007CCD 00Dionne GREETING 0 Hmmm. They'll let anyone in here won't they?
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 0 The Ghost is a living legend among thieves in the guild.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 1 He is a burglar of the highest degree who snuck his way into every castle and estate in Cyrodiil, sometimes just for fun.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 2 Sure, he would take a few things to make a living but he never took heirlooms or irreplaceable items.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 3 He took only what he needed. Once, he made his way into Skingrad castle just to get some bolts of cloth.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 4 Cloth! He could have stolen that from any merchant, but he felt it his obligation to do break in and take these things.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 5 He felt he was doing his marks a service by revealing to them the flaws in their security.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 6 He wanted them to know he was there, even if he didn't take anything of value to them.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 7 To do this, he would always leave his calling card-a crumpled up piece of paper on the floor on which he had written:
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 8 [QUOTE]You've been visited by the Ghost and he will return.[QUOTE]
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 9 You see, he would always come back a fortnight later to see if he could get in the same way as before. Usually, he could.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 10 He had a long career as a nuisance and petty thief, but then he slipped up.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 11 He decided to sneak into Anvil Castle again just to see if a secret entrance he found leading from an old cave underneath the castle was still open.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 12 When he prepared his card for the job, he did not pay any mind to the other writing on the back side.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 13 This was a short list of instructions written for a Fighter's Guild member in that same city.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 14 The Anvil guards immediately descended upon the guild hall and asked the porter about the name in question.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 15 The porter knew the member, but told them that he had just left. The guards came in and searched his chest.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 16 The fighter in question had several writings among his belongings, all of them in the same handwriting as the Ghost.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 17 Of course, the guards waited for his return and arrested him at once when they saw him, but then something unexpected happened.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 18 It seems that, after an audience before Count Corvus Umbranox, the Ghost was not only set free,
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 19 but given a position among the castle staff attending to security measures!
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 20 His status grew at the castle because he knew every in and out of security and thievery.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 21 He was even granted an assistant to help him in his work, an elf named Denal and the two of them became fast friends.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 22 He also became good friends with the Count and Countess Umbranox, especially the Count.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 23 Soon he was asked by other counts to examine the security in their castles. He, of course, had prior knowledge of all the ways thieves could get in.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 24 He helped them all improve their defense against burglars, but many think he kept at least one way in to every castle to himself.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 25 It is also whispered that Count Umbranox confided in the Ghost before his disappearance, because the Ghost left Anvil Castle soon afterward.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 26 He was questioned, of course, but he maintained that he knew nothing of the matter
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 27 and stated that his leaving was merely due to the profound depression caused by his friend vanishing.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 28 I've heard he still lives around Anvil, but he goes by his real name now. He has said that the Ghost died with his arrest.
FormID: 01009168 00Dionne ToCatchaGhost 29 Those that know him keep his identity a secret per his wishes. I am one of those people, of course, though I do like to tell his tale.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 0 The Ghost came out of retirement about five years after Count Umbranox's disappearance for a short time.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 1 It seems that there was another thief who began slipping into castles and estates and then leaving behind the Ghost's calling card.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 2 However, this thief would steal everything of value, even if it was just a silver pitcher.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 3 Many nobles found their most prized possessions missing, their vaults sacked, and their chests emptied. Some were completely wiped out.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 4 Guards from every city descended upon the Ghost's little cottage and he was taken, rather brutally, to the Imperial City Jail District.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 5 There, he stayed for two days awaiting his fate, but fortune smiled upon him.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 6 Countess Umbranox was his friend before and after her husband's disappearance and she traveled to the City to defend him.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 7 She and her guards bore witness for the Ghost, testifying that he has not left Anvil for months and so could not have committed those crimes.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 8 With their testimony, it became apparent that a copy-cat was on the prowl.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 9 The Countess made a suggestion to the Council that the Ghost be hired to look into the matter and they accepted it
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 10 On the condition that the Ghost was always attended by a dispatch of guards so he could not disappear himself.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 11 They filled Ghost in on the details of the burglaries including who was hit and what was stolen. Many victims were listed across Cyrodiil.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 12 The only city not yet hit by this imposter was Bravil, obvious because of its status as being the poorest district in Cyrodiil.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 13 The Ghost told the Council that this would be the next target and also stated he knew how the imposter would enter.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 14 He asked to be accompanied by a trio of Foresters rather than guards for trip to Bravil,
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 15 for they would know better how to remain unseen in the wilderness where they had to go.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 16 His request was accepted and he set off.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 17 He led the foresters to an abandoned tower south of Bravil and bade the foresters to lay in wait with him there.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 18 They couldn't understand why they should be watching an old fort when they should be keeping an eye on the castle.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 19 So he told them to go to the castle if they think they know better.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 20 Two of them did, but one stayed behind to keep an eye on the Ghost. He still was not completely above suspicion despite the Countess' testimony.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 21 The Ghost and his guard were not alone long, however, for the next day, a young wood elf exited the ruins.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 22 He was dressed in the leather armor of one who gets by with stealth and carried bags that were heavy with goods.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 23 The Ghost asked the forester to question the elf while he himself stayed hidden in the shadows of the trees.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 24 When elf saw the forester, a look of fear flashed across his face, but was immediately replaced by an uneasy smile.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 25 The guard asked him what he was doing and was told that he was clearing out this den of monsters for its loot.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 26 He showed the forester his sacks and revealed many silver and gold items, as well as coins, potions and expensive jewelry.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 27 The guard thumbed through it all and, seeing nothing unusual, started to let the lad go, but the Ghost came out of hiding.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 28 [QUOTE]Denal![QUOTE] he called out, [QUOTE]It has been a long time.[QUOTE]
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 29 The lad, Denal, startled at the Ghost's sudden appearance. His eyes grew wide and his face turned white.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 30 The Ghost strode forward, [QUOTE]It looks like you've been busy lately. Tell me, did you not think that I would know it was you? [QUOTE]
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 31 [QUOTE]How could I not realize you were the one to betray my friendship and make a mockery of my legacy?[QUOTE]
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 32 The forester looked puzzled, so the Ghost spoke to him.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 33 [QUOTE]You see, good sir, this lad was my assistant when I worked for the Count of Anvil. He knew every security risk that I found,
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 34 even those I did not reveal to the authorities.[QUOTE]
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 35 The surprised Forester spoke, [QUOTE]You mean, this stuff is from Castle Bravil? How could that be?[QUOTE]
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 36 Before the Ghost could answer, Denal suddenly dropped his bags and broke into a run.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 37 [QUOTE]Stop right there, criminal scum![QUOTE] the forester shouted, but Denal kept running.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 38 The forester drew his bow and, like an expert in marksmanship, shot an arrow straight through his back.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 39 This caused Denal to fly forward and fall so the forester could get to him.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 40 Raising him up by the scruff of his neck, he led him back to the entrance of the fort.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 41 [QUOTE]How did you know that he would be here?[QUOTE] the forester asked, eyeing the Ghost suspiciously.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 42 [QUOTE]Because there is a way into the castle from this fort, a secret passage. Follow me.[QUOTE]
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 43 The Ghost led the pair into the fort and they made their way through the empty halls to what appeared to be a blank wall.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 44 Voices were heard on the other side, [QUOTE]We've been robbed! How could you let this happen? You were supposed to be watching![QUOTE]
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 45 Other voices joined in to protest their lack of attentiveness. They seemed to be familiar.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 46 The Ghost hit a secret switch and the wall opened up to reveal a brightly lit castle room
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 47 wherein the Count and his wizard were berating the other foresters.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 48 All of them looked stunned and bewildered at the Ghost standing in the previously unknown passageway.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 49 The foresters strode forward, [QUOTE]There is your thief, Count! He was the one who robbed you![QUOTE]
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 50 They grasped the Ghost and threw him to the floor before the Count, but immediately the third forester came out with his prisoner.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 51 [QUOTE]Fools! Here is your thief. That man there is the one responsible for catching him![QUOTE]
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 52 The Count helped the Ghost up and thanked him profusely. After retrieving his goods, he gave him a reward.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 53 Denal was arrested and brought to justice in the City and the forester who stayed with the Ghost was promoted.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 54 The Count was going to seal off the secret passage, but was dissuaded by his wizard who sought to claim it as his own grotto.
FormID: 0100916A 00Dionne ReturnoftheGhost 55 As for the Ghost, his name was cleared and he went back home to his humble life around Anvil, a little richer and a little sadder for the situation.
