I am the mage Rastieri. I have lived my life perfecting the magic I so love. I created my home through the arcane arts, and named it Frostcrag. You already know this, as only my chosen heir could have made it past my magical defenses to read this.
In that time, I discovered through the powers of mysticism and necromancy, a method of enchanting objects by which they are hidden from this world. They are here, and not here. They exist, and do not exist. It is paradox. For they reside in the world of the dead, a place normally untouchable by any of the living. Walls much like the magical barriers that protect our world from Oblivion, also protect us from the world of the dead. It coexists with our world, it inhabits the same space, but is removed from our senses.
The arcane powers of Necromancy can bore through that wall, but only imperfectly, the transfer is but a mockery of life, and the creatures thus animated are but puppets to their masters will.
What I have found, is a way to transfer material objects that normally reside in our plane of existence, across that wall. They are safeguarded there by the dead. None may trespass or the retribution is swift and final. The dead will claim their own.
To reclaim those objects, I the creator of the spell have no difficulty. I am the signer of that contract, and can transfer objects back and forth across the barrier at will. But for another to reclaim items I have hidden in the world of the dead, is a feat of terrifying proportions.
To do so, they must traverse the World of the Dead. They must claim for themselves the contract which is hidden there. That contract is but a physical vessel for the spell I have constructed, if it is brought back to the land of the living, the spell will be broken, and the objects and items returned.
Obviously they must survive, and this they will not do... making my most powerful, my most dangerous discoveries, outside the hands of the living forever. For they cannot be destroyed, and I am old now and soon to join the dead who guard my treasures. The things I have created cannot be regained, lest their fell power be unleashed on an unsuspecting world by those who would misuse them.

Please let this serve as your final warning... do not dig into the past. There are secrets best left to the grave.
