TO BEING A PIRATE

Transcribed be Felodius Squible as spoken by Mecios Carcasdis

* A Pirates Life *

Its a pirates life for me, and once ye have read this ere guide ye be able to embark on the high seas for a ripe bit of adventuring as well.
A captains life is rife with pleasures and pain, being in charge of hiring crew mates, and paying for repairs to the ship. But a Captain gets the greatest share of the loot, and decides where the ship heads. Great fame and fortune can come to the Captain, earning respect of ye fellow sea dogs and the enmity of those [expletive edited] known as the Imperial Navy.

* Ye Ship *

The ship is a captains only true love, as she bears them across the great sea. As captain and likely owner of a ship ye be in charge of organising and financing repairs to ye fine vessel. Ye ship can be damaged in battle or if ye be foolish enough to sail her without a full crew. In all me years I found no better safe port to repair me ship than fair Blackhorn Town, and unless ye have yer own shipwright its the best place to go.

* Ye Crew *

Ye crew are the salty sea dogs responsible for sailing ye ship, and ye risk suffering damage to ye fine vessel if ye try to sail without a crew, so its best to hire as many as ye can. Of course ye be needing to share the loot with ye crew every week or so, or ye risk a mutiny. A larger crew also makes it easier to encourage merchants to transfer the ownership of their cargo over to ye.

* Ye First Mate *

Every ship needs a first mate to pass out the Captains orders, and help keep ye crew in line. Through them ye plan yer looting and when to sail the seas looking for booty. They be also in charge of handing out the crews share of the loot, and a good Captain needs to do this every couple of weeks. Less ye awake to find the crew have commandeered ye ship!

* On the account *

Looting be a pirates favourite thing next to drinking and sailing. As a Captain ye simply talk to ye first mate to plan the battle, then sail the seas in search of fat merchant ships to plunder. Few are willing to hand over their goods without a fight though, and battling can be a sure way to lose some of yer fine crew or get ye vessel damaged. Once a merchant and his crew be "convinced" to hand over their goods ye can usually find the cargo manifest in the main cabin, this ye be needing to take to sell on the goods of the ship. Searching a ship yerself can also lead to finding some decent booty to keep or sell on. Occasionally a battle leads to the capture of slaves, which can be sold on for a fair price.

* The Imperial Navy *

Filthy dogs no less. Ye'll run into them occasionally while sailing the high seas, and they generally try to do their best to end ye days of pirateering. A Captain of fair fame may find himself more frequently under attack by these bilge rats, but a good crew and a fine cutlass should keep ye from dancing the hempen jig.

May ye looting be prosperous and the grog flow free!
