During the Imperial Simulacrum, in which Jagar Tharn substituted Uriel Septim VII, Mehrunes Dagon made an attempt to invade Tamriel. This is known as the "Battlespire Incident": the Battlespire is the training ground for Imperial Battlemages, and acts as a portal to a few realms of Oblivion. Mehrunes Dagon tried to use this portal as a gateway into Mundus, a plan which was foiled by a new apprentice of the Battlespire.

This is not the full story, though. The Battlespire had no direct connection to the Deadlands of Mehrunes Dagon, so his forces had to conquer several other realms of Oblivion first - the Soul Cairn, a realm of sentient undead, and Shade Perilous. Shade Perilous was and is again part of Nocturnal's realm. While its inhabitants are daedra, they didn't side with Mehrunes Dagon. On the contrary, they helped the Hero of the Battlespire to fight Dagon's forces. Without their help, it is to be doubted if the invasion would have been foiled.

One of those daedra that fought against Dagon's invasion got trapped in our world, later imprisoned in a soul gem. By chance the gem was discovered by the Stranded Light, and the Daedra released: She is a so-called Daedra Seducer named "Teshekru" and is now recovering from her ordeal in Merendin. While this decision may stir up a lot of controversy, the word of Tesserayiel (Stranded Light's guildmaster) should be kept in mind: "Daedra or not, she fought for this world and paid a high price for it. Prolonging her torment would be wrong, whatever she is. What is important is what she did, and she did what was right."
