VICTORY AT THE BATTLE OF BRUMA!
THE EMPIRE'S FORCES PREVENT BRUMA FROM DESTRUCTION!

by Redara Alleius

oday I have witnessed one of the epic battles that history remembers long after civilizations have risen and fallen. I have witnessed the beginning of the end of Dagon's reign of terror on our world. The best and bravest of our fair empire gathered over the last weeks within Bruma's walls. I am told word was brought from the Emperor's Blades that an attack like that that destroyed Kvatch was planned for Bruma.

housands of soldiers from each of the major cities of Cyrodiil traveled here. Their ranks encircled the city itself as their numbers swelled more each day. The wait seemed interminable, not knowing when the call to arms would come.

inally, this morning before the moons had left the sky, the Blades arrived in force. They escorted the mysterious Martin Septim to the chapel where he met with the Countess. The meeting was brief and shortly after, his imposing figure walked through the streets of Bruma, calling the soldiers to ready for battle. He was cheered out the gates themselves, an army on his heels. In a mere hour, this massive force was drawn together and led a short way away to a lonely valley just outside the walls.

housands of soldiers from across the width and breadth of Cyrodiil stood arrayed across the rim of the once tranquil valley, now violated by a gate from Oblivion. Some of the soldiers began to shuffle fearfully as the skies above them darkened to a vicious red as thunder cut across the army like a knife.

nto that scene our untested Emperor strode to the head of his army. With great sweeping strides he stalked the ground before his troops and delivered a stirring speech. As he spoke, this lost son of our beloved Uriel Septim, the men straightened, backs stiffening in pride. Oh it was a sight to see, as though Martin's will flowed out into them, buttressed them up against the onslaught soon to come.

he assembled army of the principalities of Cyrodiil let loose a mighty battle cry as the first of Dagon's Daedra emerged from the gate. It seemed a never ending tide as they flooded from the gate to cover the valley floor. All manner of hellish creatures with armored Dremora at their head. For a moment, the two armies seemed to size each other up and then the battle was joined. It was a fearsome thing with mighty Daedroth cutting swathes of death through our troops in their search of royal prey.

et always when it seemed they would surely catch him unaware, one of his loyal Blades would be there to take the blow. As I stood upon the ridge of the valley with many of the townsfolk of Bruma, we could all feel the very ground shake beneath our feet as a second and then a third gate erupted from the ground below, shooting into the air and flooding more vile creatures into the battle.

ach time I thought our army would falter, Martin was there, rising from the battle with his sword raised high, yelling a rallying cry to his men. Again, the ground quaked beneath us, this time so powerful we were knocked from our feet and the largest gate to Oblivion I have ever seen pulled itself from the ground. There was a brief moment when all fighting stopped as both man and creature stopped to watch its birth.

o quickly I almost missed it, I saw a figure emerge from beside the Emperor. This figure gave him a salute and sprinted through the distracted Daedra forces and vanished inside the Great Gate alone. The battle cry went up again, louder I think as the two armies crashed together once more. The Daedra seemed a never ending supply from the now quartet of gates. So furious was the fighting, there was not even time to bring the wounded from the field. They were left where they fell, the poor souls.

e cried out in fear as one flank of the defenders seemed to cave beneath the weight of a sudden Daedra attack. The soldiers fell back, forced aside as the creatures roared at them. The Oblivion forces seized their advantage, swelling to the side of our army.

ust when all seemed lost, the sound of horns pierced above the battle. From behind the furthest gate a division of mounted Legionnaires emerged, lances bristling as they crashed down upon the Daedra assaulting the army's flank. The hell spawn had little chance and were crushed between the two forces.

great cheer went up all around me from the spectators of this epic battle as they realized the supposed weakness in our lines had been a trap. Below, the Legionnaires wheeled their mounts to face the Great Gate as a new sound broke across the valley. A rumbling as of some giant beast growling, the earth shook again, harder and harder.

any of the Bruma folk around me screamed, many more ran for the city screaming all was lost and for a moment, I agreed. A massive construct I can hardly describe began to slowly emerge from the Great Gate. A massive glowing eye at its center seemed to look out at us as it crawled from the portal. This then was the siege machine of Mehrune's Dagon and a terrifying machine it was.

could not begin to imagine how our valiant defenders would stop such a monstrosity. Yet even as I thought to retreat somewhere safer, the remaining Daedra on the field gave a chilling cry of despair, turning as one to watch as the Great Gate seemed to collapse. There were many flashes of brilliant light, a deafening crack and it was gone, leaving the head of the Siege Machine to topple forward into the bloodied snow, dead.

he cry from the thousands of soldiers remaining on the field must have carried to the White Gold Tower itself as the remaining three smaller gates collapsed upon themselves. Our army swept across the valley floor, crushing what was left of Dagon's army before them. At the last, a single towering Dremora remained. As the soldiers closed on him, he threw his demon sword in a killing arc toward our Emperor.

gasped with those around me when the sword was batted from its lethal trajectory at the last moment. The figure who had vanished within the Great Gate had returned with its destruction and slew the Dremora. The cheering began in earnest as the forces of Cyrodiil stood victorious.

ruly there can be no finer collection of soldiers anywhere in the Empire than here on this bloodied valley floor this day. Though all had seemed hopeless and our losses great, they gave no quarter, sweeping Dagon's forces before them and accomplishing the impossible. Songs will be sung for eras to come of those that fought in this great battle. The names of those fierce and loyal soldiers who gave their lives writ into history for the sacrifice they made for our glorious Empire.

e stand victorious this day Cyrodiil. Raise your voices in praise of the magnificent Martin Septim, Emperor and leader, for he is worthy of our loyalty and praise you the soldiers of our fair cities that stood tall against insurmountable odds to win the day. We have struck a blow to the invader Dagon he will not soon forget.
