There is no satisfaction to be gained from wealth if not used wisely. It buys only false friends, the illusions of power and significance and meaningless self-importance.

Only as you face the jaws of death do you understand no-one respects you. They respect your money. They do not love you. They love your money. They do not even like you. But they will hide the truth because they like your money.
<p>
Oh some may be such brilliant actors that they will deceive you with their lies and flattery into believing otherwise. Only as death approaches will you see the naked greed in their eyes. When it no longer matters, when you can no longer do anything about it. I know this to be the truth.
<p>
It is not evil to become rich. It is not evil to be rich. It is evil not to use the advantages this brings for the good of those less fortunate. Not those you know. Not those who can help you onwards and upwards. Not those who will bring you reflected glory. Those who you benefit in silent, secret, unexceptional ways. And they will love you.
<p>
They will not know you. They could never recognise you. They will be in no position to thank you. But they will love you.
<p>
Their love will sustain you through life. And if, as I do, you find death in an empty room, with no-one close or even aware, it will not matter. You will not die alone. You will not die unloved. You will not die unmourned.

You will not die in despair.
<p>
Do not, as I did, leave it too late.
