DEAD UNICORN DISCOVERED!

By Redara Alleius

egion foresters lately returned to the Imperial City with disturbing news. The body of Cyrodiil's only Unicorn has been found slain in the Harcane Grove, just southwest of the Imperial City itself. The scene was a disturbing one. The Grove's guardians had been slain and the Unicorn itself defiled, its horn removed. The foresters found little evidence at the scene to discover what happened, though it is known the Unicorn would attack passersby with drawn weapons.

Perhaps one of them was forced to defend themselves. The foresters think not. They hint that it may have something to do with the shrine to the Daedra Lord Hircine so near the Grove itself. Hircine is known to be the great hunter of the Daedra Lords. Rumor is growing that Hircine himself walked the land and slew the Unicorn, taking its horn for some arcane purpose.

Several of the foresters stopped at the shrine on their way to the city, speaking with the worshipers there. They were unhelpful, so far as we could determine, though one mentioned a recent visitor who may have actually spoken to the Daedra Lord himself! Indeed, the pelt of a recently slain animal was found laid at the base of the Shrine's statue. The priest there told us this is the traditional offering to speak to his Lord.

We may never know what truly happened in the Harcane Grove that day, as rumor quickly outstrips truth in these troubling times. One thing is sure; Cyrodiil is lessened with the loss of this magnificent and ancient creature.
