Dear Sharnur,

I am not, as you know, a great believer in coincidences so I am sure there must be strange magic at work around me.
Do you remember that book on Necromantic summoning? The one brought in by the blind beggar all those years ago? The one that is half written in some strange code. It has sat on the corner of my desk ever since it arrived. Periodically I pick it up, spend fruitless hours trying to break the code. I always end up tearing my hair out in frustration. I don't know whether I am wasting my time trying to decipher the ravings of a lunatic, or on the brink of discovering matters of great import.
Anyway, two weeks since, I came into my study to find the book lying on the floor.
Now before you start scratching your head and muttering to Malacath ?Todward has finally gone insane getting all excited because of a book he has knocked off his desk onto the floor? it wasn?t knocked. And why should it fall for no reason after resting in the same place for decades?
Today I hear news of a petty thief who was boasting in the village of Morton?s Fork, Wayrest claiming to have found a new tomb full of treasure in the Wrothgarian mountains. He had a few pretty, but worthless, baubles but claims he was disturbed by the undead before he could get further into the tomb. It certainly seems possible that he spoke the truth for he fell sick with a bloating fever I recognize as the kind of death curse used to protect tombs in that region. The villagers could do nothing to ease his misery until he burst messily putting a permanent end to it. The reports say the gases bursting from him were ignited by a candle flame causing a greater explosion still that roasted three of the villagers alive. The stench of cooked flesh hangs on the air even now.
I can imagine you muttering ?So what?? but I have calculated that the book must have fallen at the same moment as the thief broke into the tomb.
Well, even if it is pure coincidence it is still worth me going to have a look. Previously ?undiscovered? tombs containing the undead are not so common I should miss a chance to investigate before it has been completely stripped. Assuming of course it has not been denuded already. I think the spectacularly unpleasant end of the thief will have discouraged looters in the short term but that will soon pass from the memory. I will leave at once and let you know what I find.
Of course I do know that you?ll be right, Sharnur. The odd circumstance of the fallen book will have a boringly prosaic explanation that has nothing to do with the tomb. Sometimes I just like to fantasize.
I trust you and your husband are well and happy and that we can meet up soon. I will write again after I have seen the tomb.

Fond regards,

Todward
